Oasis Dance Centre

灣仔晏頓街1號安定大廈4樓

Founded in 2003 by Canadian born Chinese Mey Jen Tillyer, Oasis Dance Centre is Hong Kong’s first dance studio dedicated to the feminine art of oriental dance, more often named “Bellydance”.

Mey Jen first brought
this form of Middle Eastern dance to Hong Kong in 1985 when bellydance was relatively unknown. “It was quite a difficult time, as some people thought we were offering exotic dance instead of cultural dance,” said Mey Jen. “However after many years of hard work, the perceptions have changed and so has the bellydance community in Hong Kong,” she explained.

With over 200 active students, graduates and instructors, Oasis Dance Centre has expanded its presence in Hong Kong over the years. Oasis is at the forefront of Hong Kong’s oriental dance community.

As well as bellydance lessons, Oasis also offers qualified instruction in Hawaiian, Flamenco, Indian Bollywood and American Tribal Dance, and most recently, the acrobatic and athletic art of pole dancing.

Oasis was the only local dance organization to be featured in the LCSD sponsored Mediterranean Festival in 2007. Also, the first local dance troupe to present Hawaiian Dance in the LCSD’s first Hawaiian Family Festival – From Aloha to Lohas in 2008.

Oasis Dance Centre not only performs for corporate functions but also for cultural, community and charitable events. The studio has provided performers for occasions such as Friends of Cambodia, Give a Hand to Jogjakarta, Music and Dancing for Tabasco, Mexico, Orientalia 2008 and World Bellydance Day 2009, and many others.
